c1940-50 - This is a truly unique and we believe early necklace constructed of smooth silver beads in a single strand, culminating in a 2” silver naja with an Indian Head/Buffalo nickel at its center. Additionally, there are six Indian Head (Buffalo on the reverse) nickels on each side attached by a corkscrewed band of silver. The nickels date from 1935-1937, with the exception of one 1924 nickel. This necklace is strung on a single strand of thin wire and has a hanging length of 12.” A true piece of Americana art, it probably dates to the 1940s, after which time this type of necklace became more elaborate, with double rows of beads and the plentiful use of turquoise. There does appear to be an artist’s mark on the reverse of the naja but it is too difficult to decipher. Probably Navajo.
