c1950s-1970s - This vintage set consists of a massive squash blossom necklace with matching bracelet and screw back earrings in a most unusual design. The necklace measures 28” in total length (18” hanging length), the naja is 4.5" wide x 4” length and has a central pendant suspended from the center. Each green cabochon is mounted in the center of four silver side pieces with a 5th “pomegranate” silver flute extending from the bottom. There are five of these on each side of the necklace, and the naja contains six. One of the stones on the right side, and two on the left side of the necklace are not the same green turquoise color; rather, they are closer to a bright blue color. The double strands of silver beads are bench made and fluted. The necklace is strung on a utilitarian stainless steel chain, but may have been restrung from its original rope or wire. Completing the set are the bracelet and earrings, both consisting of the same design element and green stones as the necklace. The bracelet’s pieces are mounted on a sand cast base. There is no discernible maker’s mark. We are presuming this set to be Navajo made. Zuni, Hopi and Pueblo people are all known to make squash blossoms. Heavy and impressive.
