Stock number 106 for one hundred shares for this mining company. Vignette at top of two allegorical figures on either side of a shield displaying a mill site with a train in the background and a horse-drawn cart in the foreground. Behind the two figures is a steam train and farming scene. The Sprucemont MC president, John Wesley Turner, had tried to capitalize on a small mining camp, hoping that big discoveries would be made, but none were forthcoming. It is likely that few of these certificates were actually ever sold. Turner (1833-1899) was a railroad and canal constructor, and thus had a natural interest in mining. He was brigadier general of volunteers in the Civil War. He fought on the front at the Petersburg mine in 1864. He resigned from the army in 1871, which was the time that Sprucemont was just beginning.City: SprucemontCounty: ElkoState: NV
