Springfield first-type officer’s model, .45-70 caliber, with Sharps veneer tang sight as altered by Springfield Armory. The rifle remains in original good to very good condition with strong traces of original blue and case hardening mixed in with an uncleaned patina. The stock is good to very good with a couple of dings, mars, but generally sharp checkering, a minor age crack by rear of lock plate and some other use and storage type marks. The original sights and small parts are retained, the action good, the bore very good and still bright. The rifle shows typical officer’s model engraving for the first type. The rifle shows a proper nickel plated ramrod and correct globe front sight and set trigger is working. The interior of triggerguard is marked “26” and “A”, “1” and “5” and the number “66” on the sear, with a large “D” stamp behind the spring. A very nice and untouched officer’s model that shows some frontier-era use but has been cared for. Est: $13,000 - $18,000
