Springfield Officers Model Trapdoor rifle 45-70 caliber, 3rd variation with removable pistol grip and long pattern fore end in fine to excellent original condition. The stock shows crisp SVW cartouche and 1885 date along with “P” proof in the belly of stock just behind point of checkering. The rifle shows 90-95% original blue with some slight toning to plum on the barrel. The lock, breech block, tang and hammer show 95% plus brightrainbow case hardening. The rails, breech and rear band show 95-98% bright blue. The original tang sight retains 90-95% original bright blue as does the rear sight and front sight shows most gold plate on flip up ring. The stock is fine to excellent with sharp checkering and just a few very minor handling marks, the butt plate shows 90% plus original blue, the interior shows no use and most finish with bright bore. A correctramrod is retained and this rifle would rate a strong 9.7 to 9.8 on 1 - 10 scale. A key U.S. Martial arm which only 477 were produced from 1875 to 1885. Est.;$35,000 - $70,000.
