The receiver serial number falls into the serial number range of rifles manufactured circa 1938. The rifle has a parkerized Springfield Model 1903 receiver with a Lyman sight and a blue Winchester barrel with a globe front sight and two scope blocks. The barrel has the Winchester factory proof at the breech on the left side. Polished bolt numbered to the gun in electric pencil with NS marking (1930-1939). The NRA style pistol grip stock without grasping groove has a single barrel band (without sling swivel), forearm accessory rail and adjustable brass Swiss buttplate. The rifle also has a leather sling. According to the consignor notes, this rifle belonged to George Bjornstad. Bjornstad won the U.S. Army Distinguished Marksman Medal, the highest award given in rifle competition, in 1963 and by 1964 he held six national records in high-power rile competition. He was an engineer by profession, working as a naval chemist during WWII. The George Bjornstad Trophy for high-power open championship has been awarded since 1989.

Very fine as assembled for U.S. Army target shooting. The barrel retains 95% plus original blue finish showing some minor thinning with a few patches of minor spotting. The barrel band has been buffed has some minor handling marks. The buttplate has an attractive aged patina. The remaining metal surfaces retain 90% plus original parkerized finish showing thinning on the floor plate. The stock is excellent showing some scattered minor handling marks with a crude cut-out to accommodate the receiver sight. Mechanically excellent.
