U.S. Springfield Armory Model 1884 Trapdoor Single Shot Rifle, #402883, .45-70 cal., 32'' barrel, blue and case hardened finish, smooth long comb walnut stock, with two-piece blade front sight and Buffington rear sight. Large ''V/P/(eagle)'' on barrel, breechblock marked ''U.S./Model/1884'', lockplate marked ''U.S./Springfield/ (eagle)'', buttplate marked ''U.S.'' Stock marked ''SWP/1887'' in square, ''P'' in circle behind triggerguard. Mfg'd 1887. Condition is excellent retaining approx. 85% factory blue just beginning to turn brown with light freckling overall; breech and block have turned a mottled brown with some dents along the firing pin housing. Triggerguard retains approx. 85% blue turning to brown with some dents in front of the guard. Stock retains about 80% original varnish turning dark with no cracks and slight losses near toe which is oil stained. Action is tight, bore is bright with slight frosting that may clean to fine.
