Springfield Model 1884 Rifle (ID'ed Sp-Am War).
This is a standard Model 1884 Springfield U.S. Trapdoor rifle chambered for the .45-70 govt cartridge. Standard features include 32-5/8" barrel, two barrel bands, walnut stock, dated 1873 case color block, and single shot. Rifle is all proper with military inspector marks. The cartouche on left side of wrist reads SWP (Samuel Porter) 1885. All metal surfaces are a smooth blue-brown patina with sharp factory markings. Excellent walnut stocks with no cracks or chips, just the usual bumps and bruises associated with war-time use. Strong near mint bore. Perfect action. It is accompanied by a Springfield Research Service that states this rifle was issued to Elwood Barrick, Company C, 51st Iowa Volunteer Infantry date 1898 Spanish-American War. Also has copies of the original issue papers. Further research into the history of Elwood Barrick could provide some very interesting information.
