Springfield Model 1880 rifle with rare triangular bayonet in .45-70 caliber, serial number 157820. Refer Flayderman 9A-375. The rifle remains in original very good condition showing 60% - 80% original blue on barrel and lock evenly drifting and toning with some normal aging. The markings are sharp, edges are crisp and the tang shows some areas of case hardening and rainbow colors. The butt plate shows some blue. The stock shows a clear S.V.W. cartouche and the date 1887. The stock is also very good with minor losses along the ramrod channel, slight dings, mars, scratches and normal aging. The trigger guard shows bright original blue and there are 2 large P stamps right behind the trigger guard in the belly of the stock. All small parts are retained and the action is good. The bore is bright. Only 1,001 produced by Springfield Arsenal. Est.: $3,000-$6,000.
