Springfield Model 1879 Trapdoor Carbine,
.45-70 caliber, 22" barrel with V.P. and eagle. P barrel proof marks. Serial number 187632*. Blued barrel, receiver, lock, trigger bow and guard, buttplate, sight protector. Breechblock is case colored. Walnut stock with SWP/1882 cartouche and circle P behind triggerguard. Original cleaning rod in butt.

A ‘starred’ carbine that was assembled from parts at the Springfield arsenal and issued to National Guard and other reserve units.


Condition: Barrel and receiver retaining ca 95% blue finish. Breechblock retaining ca 98% case colors. Stock is excellent with red open grained look, some dents - especially around the buttplate where there is evidence on both sides that it was placed in a vise. Stock has an outstanding cartouche and firing proof. Carbines like this one do not come up for sale very often.
