Springfield Bolo knife, 1914 dated, US Stamped, Serial #38076 with leather scabbard dated 1914 and Rock Island Arsenal marked. Blade near fine with original polish, slight erosion just starting. Grips are also near fine, crossguard shows dark patina, scabbard very good plus with most blue on mounts. Along with AKM Type I Bayonet. Very early model captured at the Siege of Khe Sanh in 1968 from North Vietnamese soldier. It has Orange bakelite grips. Both scabbard and blade have matching serial numbers etched into the metal. Scabbard has indications of being manufactured by Tula. This bayonet incorporated a unique design for locking the blade and scabbard together as wire cutting pliers. It was loaned to the Bayonet Committee at the Infantry School, Ft. Benning, GA in 1969 and its wire cutting capability garnered considerable interest. I believe it became the model for the Army's future M-9 bayonet with the same capability. Acquired in Vietnam at Khe Sanh by Major Hammond Salley, US Army, Retired. Est: $300 - $600
