Springfield Arms Warner's Factory Engraved Pistol
This is an increasingly scarce Springfield Arms Co. Warner’s Patent factory engraved pocket model pistol. The firearm features a serial number of 6 marked under the barrel frame, 2 5/8 inch round barrel, .28 caliber, six-shot percussion revolver with side hammer. Approximately only 100 of these very rare firearms were ever created in circa 1851, with even less fully factory engraved variations with a shorter barrel. The piece is beautifully hand engraved scroll on the frame with circular engraving patterns on the entire circumference of the unique deep groove cylinder which is also marked, “WARNER’S PATENT.” It is interesting to note that James Warner who designed and patented this fine revolver was a major firearms designer of the 1850s who also manufactured handguns and carbines through the Civil War period. The Warner’s Patent revolver shows remarkable honest original condition inside and out with metal surfaces show no indication of ever having been cleaned and shows no signs of rust or abuse of any kind. Even the barrel and cylinder retain fine original blue finish. This shows an unusual and attractive center hammer design with bag-style walnut grips making this unusual and historical piece exclusive in its appearance and easily identifiable. Mechanically the pistol is perfect with tight indexing of the cylinder and lockup. Still showing sharp engraving and small brass front sight intact. With only approximately 100 of these being manufactured over 166 years ago very few surviving examples are available especially in this rare factory engraved fine condition. Very rare pistol part of the first 6 ever produced. This example would have to be one of the best still in existence, surviving. Antique Firearms requires NO FFL.
