Springfield Armory marked rolling block carbine in .50-.70 caliber dated 1872 on right side of the action and marked model 1871 on left with well marked Springfield Eagle and serial numbered 3283 on rightbreech of barrel. The carbine remains in very good plus original condition showing 60% to 80% original blue on the barrel which is evenly drifting and toning showing some just light scattered erosion and minor scratcheswith normal age. The forend shows a clear H. W cartouche and there is an E. S. A cartouche on the left wrist which is mostly visible. The stocks are very good plus with just minor dings, mars, storage and minor use. Thebarrel band shows most of his original blue as does the spring. All the original small parts are retained. The Remington patent markings are clear on the tang. The action is tight, the bore is very good plus andprobably would clean to excellent. The barrel measures 23 inches and the forend is 9 inches. A scarce U.S. issued carbine in exceptionally good condition. Est.: $1,250-$2,500.
