Springfield Armory U.S. Model 1888 Trapdoor Rod-Bayonet Rifle, #534160, .45-70 cal., 32" barrel, blue and case hardened finish, walnut stock, standard blade front sight, and M1884 adjustable rear sight. The receiver has the serial number and breechblock is marked "U.S./MODEL/1884". The Model 1884 marking was not changed for the M1888 rifle. Lockplate is marked with an "(Eagle)" and "U.S./SPRINGFIELD". Barrel is marked "V P (Eagle) P", with an "A" on top. Rod-bayonet is full-length and works well. Bands are marked "U". Condition is very good overall. Case colored block and tang show plum colored toning. Lockplate retains approx. 75% blue and the other parts were cleaned, now a mixture of gray and brown patina. Stock is marked boxed "SWP/1891" on the left, with a circled "P" behind the trigger plate; "9/F/65" is stamped on top at the butt and "9" is on the right. Stock was lightly sanded then varnished, now in fine condition, with few light handling marks. Action works properly. Bore is good, with sharp rifling and scattered light erosion. Est.: $800-$1,200.
