Springfield Armory U.S. Model 1888 Rod-Bayonet Trapdoor Rifle, #506146, .45-70 cal., 32" barrel, blue and color case hardened finish, walnut stock, standard blade front sight, and M1884 adjustable rear sight. This is a correct M1888 rod-bayonet rifle. Receiver has the serial number and the breechblock is marked "U.S./MODEL/1884." Lockplate is marked "(Eagle)" next to "U.S,/SPRINGFIELD". Barrel is marked "V P (Eagle)" with an "I" on top. Rifle is in very good+ overall condition. Case color on the breechblock and tang are approx. 75%. Blue finish on the trigger group is good but worn on the lockplate; barrel shows light thinning and toning. Stock is marked with a boxed "SWP/1890" (Samuel W. Porter), with a circled "P" behind the trigger plate. Stock is in very good condition, with some scattered handling marks. Action and rod-bayonet work properly. Bore is good with defined rifling, and a few minor rough spots. Est.: $1,000-$1,500. (Antique)
