Springfield Armory U.S. Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle, #477853, .45-70 cal., 32" barrel, blue and case hardened finish, walnut stock, standard blade front sight, and M1884 "U"-notch adjustable rear sight. The receiver has the serial number and breechblock is marked "U.S/MODEL/1884". Lockplate is marked "(eagle)" with "U S/SPRINGFIELD". Barrel is marked "VP (eagle) P" on the left rear, with an "A" on top. Condition is very good overall. Breechblock and tang case color is approx. 70% and the overall blue is approx. 80%, with a spot of light rust on top of the barrel which may clean. Stock has a boxed "SWP/1889" (Samuel W. Porter) cartouche on the left, with a circled "P" behind the trigger plate. Stock is in very good condition, with light handling marks throughout, and a black stain on the comb with drip marks to the buttplate. Action works properly. Bore is very good with sharp rifling.
