Springfield Armory U.S. Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle, #294374, .45-70 cal., 32" barrel, blue and case hardened finish, walnut stock, standard blade front sight, and M1884 adjustable rear sight. The receiver has the serial number and breechblock is marked "U.S./MODEL/1884". Lockplate is marked "(Eagle)" and "U.S./SPRINGFIELD'. Barrel is marked "V P (Eagle) P", with a "W" on top. Bands are marked "U". Ramrod is full-length. Condition is very good overall. Majority of the case colors remain on the tang; breechblock shows patina mixed with case colors. Blued parts are approx. 75%, but the receiver and barrel are mixed with patina, and a few spots of light surface rust. Buttplate is marked "US" and was reblued, showing wear at the heel. Stock has a crisp boxed "SWP/1885" cartouche on the left, with a circled "P" behind the trigger plate. Stock is good, with light marks, and there is a 1" crack behind the lockplate, and a few small chips missing at the buttplate. Action works properly. Bore is very good, with sharp rifling and light frosting. Est.: $800-$1,200. (Antique)
