Springfield Armory U.S. Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle, #455078, .45-70 cal., 32" barrel, blue and case hardened finish, walnut stock, standard blade front sight, and M1884 adjustable rear sight. The receiver has the serial number and the breechblock is marked "U.S./MODEL/1884". Lockplate is marked "(Eagle)" then "U.S./SPRINGFIELD'. Barrel is marked "V P (Eagle) P" on the left, with an "A" on top. Ramrod is correct. Both barrel bands are marked "U". Condition is very good overall. Breechblock and tang case colors are approx. 70% with patina. Approx. 75% blue remains, with a few spots of light rust on the barrel. Lockplate was cleaned and now displays light patina. Stock has a crisp boxed "SWP/1889" cartouche on the left and circled "P" behind the trigger plate. Stock is very good, with scattered light handling marks. Action works properly. Bore is very good with crisp rifling and very light frosting. This rifle is all correct. Est.: $800-$1,400. (Antique)
