Springfield Armory U.S. Model 1884 Trapdoor Cadet Rifle, #534550, .45-70 cal., 29" barrel, blue and case hardened finish, walnut stock, blade front sight, and M1884 "U"-notch adjustable rear sight. Includes black leather sling; in fair condition, showing cracking and wear from age and use. Receiver has the serial number and breechblock is marked "U.S/MODEL/1884". Lockplate is marked "(eagle)" with "U S /SPRINGFIELD". Barrel is marked "V P (eagle) P" on the left rear, with an "A" on top. Barrel was shortened slightly leaving the muzzle crown flat. Cup end on the cleaning rod was ground off. Condition is good overall. Blue and case hardened finish has gone to gray/patina throughout, with patches of moderate rust located within 12" down from the muzzle. Stock has a boxed "SWP/1891" (Samuel W. Porter) cartouche on the left, with a circled "P" behind the trigger plate and is in good condition with light handling marks throughout, heavier on the butt area. What looks like "WB" is scratched into the left side of the stock, below the receiver. Action works properly. Bore and rifling are good, with light pitting throughout. Est.: $600-$1,000. (Antique)
