Springfield Armory M1 Garand 30-06 #332345
Semiautomatic US Military rifle manufactured circa 1941. Features 24" barrel, protected blade front & protected peep rear adjustable sights, fixed magazine accepts 8 round en-bloc clips, manual safety, sling swivels, trap door buttplate. Observed parts (including sights, milled triggerguard, square cut op rod, part numbers on various parts) are early variants consistent with early manufacture date. Bore is very good condition. Gas cylinder has good coverage of black paint finish used on early examples. Barrel also appears painted, or to have dark black parkerizing with a slightly scaly appearance, with "8-41" date and other markings difficult to read from thick finish filling the marks. Receiver has dark black color, slightly glossy, with appearance of bluing, which is sometimes seen on early examples. Forward part of receiver appears to have paint or similar, with some small chips from this finish, revealing dark gray color beneath. Left side of receiver top edge has a section of rough pitting and erosion of sharp corner edge, underneath current black finish. Receiver has smaller individual pits in several places on receiver sides. Clip latch shows pitting throughout exposed surface, color matches receiver. Op rod and other parts (including magazine internals) have similar semi-gloss black color. Bottom metal and bolt appear dark parkerized, brushed appearance to metal on magazine cover. Forward visible portion of triggerguard has rough surface finish and some erosion or light strikes of part number. Stock bands are black, appearing blued. Wood is very good condition, many tiny dings from handling, handguards match stock, with some fancy figure on lower portion of butt along toe line. Wood finish appears slightly glossy. No cartouches observed in wood. Includes fair condition leather two hook sling (steel hooks & rivets, parkerized metal). Includes letter from previous owner with story about this rifle's history.
