U.S. Military contracted breechloading trapdoor single shot rifle chambered in .45-70. Features a blued 32.75" tapered barrel, two barrel bands, blade front sight, Buffington rear adjustable sight, sling swivels, ramrod-type bayonet, case hardened receiver, serrated trigger, checkered hammer spur, and one piece walnut shoulder stock with metal trapdoor buttplate & brass tack stamper "44". Rifle bears all correct markings with "SWP / 1891" cartouche on stock for Samuel W. Porter. Finish on barrel has turned to a dark brown patina, receiver is a mixture of silver tones, and lock & hammer retain some bluing with the remainder being bare metal. Rifle shows few small spots of scattered dark oxidation on barrel. Action is sound, bore is excellent, and wood stock is fine with less than average blemishes.
