U.S. Military contracted breechloading trapdoor single shot rifle chambered in .45-70. Features a blued 32 5/8" tapered barrel, two barrel bands, blade front sight, Buffington rear adjustable sight, sling swivels, no rod, case hardened breech, serrated trigger, checkered hammer spur, and full length walnut shoulder stock with "U.S." marked metal buttplate. Markings: Breech "U.S./Model/1878", Stock "CB", circled "P", and "SWP / 1886" for Samuel W. Porter. Barrel retains 70% bluing with some finish turning to patina, breech shows good case colors, and lock shows some oxidization over a bright blued finish. Action is sound, bore is excellent, and wood stock is near fine. Condition is excellent. **Antique Firearm***
