SN: 391851. This is a Model 1884 trapdoor rifle manufactured 1888 with the 1873 breech block. (Older parts were used during manufacture of these rifles) US military single shot rifle. Features 32 5/8" barrel, blade front sight, Buffington rear sight marked "R", M79 cleaning rod, sling swivels, stacking swivel, ribbed trigger, knurled hammer spur, external hammer, straight gripped walnut stock, curved steel buttplate marked "U.S.". Bore is very good/bright, good rifling. Blue finish is about 40% mostly on the breech block, lock plate, hammer and lower tang, barrel, bands, fore cap, buttplate and triggerguard have turned a light brown patina with age. Wood is very good with many small dents. Barrel marked over chamber "V / P / (eagle head)", "P". Observed markings are generally sharp edged. No cartouche observed. "%&" stamped behind the triggerguard. Three cock hammer action works well. Comes with a correct, original M1887 leather sling with one brass claw, the upper keeper is a newer replacement.
