Rifle. Single-Shot. Breech Block Action. Produced 1873-1884. Early "Indian Wars" Infantry rifle. 32.5" barrel. Correct ladder adjustable rear sights stamped "R" for rifle. Lock plate marked "U.S. Springfield" with American Eagle. Barrel has the "V P/Eagle proof. Trapdoor stamped " Model 1873 U.S. with Eagle and crossed arrows. Serial number is a little feint. U.S. marked buttplate. bore is a little dark/dirty but rifling present. Trapdoor and hammer lock up tight. Barrel and receiver have turned a plum/brown patina. There are traces of blue on the lock plate, triggerguard, barrel bands, hammer, trapdoor, and buttplate. Blued cleaning rod present. Wood is good with some minor scratches/dings but appears to have been refinished at some point. No cartouches, or the "P" proof are visible. There is a slight hairline crack behind the tang. A pretty good condition for a 73. NRA Condition-Near very good. Antique Firearm.
