Antique U.S. Military breechloading single-shot service rifle chambered in .45-70 Government, manufactured circa 1884. Features a blued/case hardened finish, 32.5" tapered barrel, pinned blade front sight, tangent rear sight graduated to 500 yards, socket bayonet, piling swivel, sling swivel, two barrel bands, smooth trigger, knurled hammer spur, and full-length straight grip walnut shoulder stock with "U.S." marked metal buttplate. Markings: Breech Block- "U.S./Model/1873". Barrel - "V/P/[Eagle Head]", "P" & what appears to be an "R". Lock - "U.S./SPRINGFIELD" & [Eagle]/[Arrows]. Stock - circled "P" in script, "B" and a "SWP/1883" cartouche. Rifle exhibits an aged dark brown patina with some traces of the original finish retained in the protected areas. Action is sound, the bore appears very good but is dirty, and the wood stock is good with blemishes & a 2.25" crack in the comb extending from the buttplate.
