'1879 Pattern' Antique U.S. military breechloading single-shot service rifle chambered in .45-70 Government, manufactured circa 1883. Features a blued & case hardened finish, 32.5" tapered barrel, pinned blade front sight on the front sight base/bayonet lug, buckhorn rear sight graduated to 1,200 yards, cleaning rod, stacking swivel, two barrel bands, smooth trigger, knurled hammer spur, sling swivels and full-length straight grip walnut shoulder stock with "U.S." marked metal buttplate. Includes a "US" marked socket type bayonet. Markings: Breechblock - "U.S./MODEL/1873". Barrel - "V/P/Eagle Head", "P", "R" & "D". Stock - script "P" inside a circle & "SWP/1882" cartouche. Lock - [Eagle]/[Arrows] & "U.S./Springfield/1873". & both Barrel Bands - "U". Rifle exhibits an aged dark brown patina on the barrel with a mostly grey patina on the balance of the metal surfaces with traces of case colors on the outside of the breechblock and bright colors on the underside. Action is strong, the three land bore is good, markings are crisp and the wood stock is good to very good. Condition is near NRA Very Good. ***Antique Firearm***
