SN: 180698. '1873 / 1879' Model. This is a Model 1873 trapdoor with the 1879 improvements, including a ribbed trigger, thicker receiver, knurled hammer spur and improved rear sight. US military single shot rifle manufactured circa 1880. Features 32 5/8" barrel, blade front sight, Buffington rear sight marked "R", M73 cleaning rod, sling swivels, stacking swivel, external hammer, straight gripped walnut stock, curved steel buttplate marked "U.S.". Bore is dark/rough, metal finish has turned a dull blue/gray with scattered light patches of pitting on the breech block and lower tang. Buttplate is scaly with heavy rust. Wood is very good with many small dents. Breech block is dated 1873. Barrel marked over chamber "V / P / (eagle head)", "P". Observed markings are generally sharp edged. Left stock wrist has a feint "SWP' cartouche with what appears to be "1882". Serial number dates the rifle to 1882. Three cock hammer action works well. Comes with a Spanish-American War era Kerr 'Nobuckl" tropical tan web sling attached.
NRA Condition-Very Good as Antique Firearm.
