Springfield 1873 Single Ring Carbine. S/N 42838, falls in the range of 7th Cavalry issued carbines, .45-70 caliber, 22” barrel, 1st Model attributes: long wrist stock, dated lock plate, 1st model hammer, no trap in butt, 1st model block, 1st model barrel band, no proof marks, circa 1875. CONDITION: has seen rough use, rifling is still good but has a few rough spots, totally re-blued, hinge pin on block is homemade, sight staff has been removed, eye screw in toe of stock probably used with stacking ring for sling, front sight lug has been split and brass blade inserted.
