'1879 Pattern' Antique U.S. military breechloading single-shot service rifle chambered in .45-70 Government, manufactured circa 1883. Features a 32.5" tapered barrel, pinned blade front sight affixed to the front sight base/bayonet lug, Model 1877 third variation tangent/flip-up ladder rear sight graduated to 1,200 yards, 3rd variation cleaning rod, stacking swivel, two barrel bands, smooth trigger, knurled hammer spur, 2nd variation lock plate, 1st variation trigger plate/guard, 6th variation breech block, sling swivels and full-length straight grip walnut shoulder stock with "U.S." marked metal buttplate. Markings: Breechblock - "U.S./MODEL/1873". Barrel - "V/P/Eagle Head", "P", "R" & "D". Stock - script "P" inside a circle & "SWP/1883" cartouche. Lock - [Eagle]/[Arrows] & "U.S./Springfield". & both Barrel Bands - "U". Rifle exhibits scattered pin prick pitting throughout, an aged dark brown patina on the barrel, and a mottled light/dark patina on the balance of the metal surfaces with some finish retained on the lock. Action is sound, the three land bore is excellent, markings are good and the wood stock is good to very good with many small blemishes. Condition is NRA Good. ***Antique Firearm***
