(Warner Bros. 1957) This is the fabric from the tail section of the Mantz replica used in the 1957 film, Spirit of St. Louis, starring Jimmy Stewart. The plane was flown by Jimmy Stewart but mainly flown by Paul Mantz. It was used for all of the takeoff scenes and all Europe scenes. There were only three Ryan B-1 Broughams located to replicate the “Spirit” in the film. After the film, the fabric skin of the plane was replaced. One side of the tail was retained by one of the men involved in the re-covering. This is the other side of the tail and it is the only piece available today. Measures 27 in. x 59 in. and housed in a custom framed display measuring 46 in. x 62 in. x 3 in. with scenes from the film. Included with the lot are copies of articles and clippings about the Spirit of St. Louis plus a copy of Ryan Broughams and Their Builders by William Wagner which goes into detail about the surviving planes and other historical details.
