The figurative carving is characterized by its sculptural quality and highly symbolic value. The spinach-green jade depicts the metamorphosis of a large and a small carp into dragons. Both leap from crashing waves in their pursuit of the flaming pearl. The motif is an allegory of a happy twist of fate and success, particularly in relation to the admission exams for the imperial civil service.



Condition: The jade carving is in good condition with only minor signs of age. The height measures (without stand) 14.3 cm.
