Spencer model 1865, lever action repeating carbine, .52-56 caliber rimfire, blue and case hardened finish, cartouche wood stocks, serial #62253. The carbine shows M.S. markings at right side of frame, 1.C. marking at center of frame, and 1.C. marking at top of frame. Also there is an M.S. stamp between the two inspector’s cartouches just behind the saddle ring bar. The left side of the breech shows an “E.A.W.” inspection and the fame shows small “M”, “R”, “W” and other martia marks. There is also an M.S. stamp directly behind the triggerguard. The carbine remains in original very good condition with 85-95% toning arsenal blue finish on barrel, the frame shows traces of case hardening within a grey patina with some noticeable case hardening on hammer and lock plate. The buttplate shows traces of case hardening. The stocks are good to very good with a couple of compressions, minor dings, mars, scratches, consistent with military use and issue. One large sliver of wood or chip missing just behind the hammer, extending back approx. 1-1/4” by 1/4 at widest point. The stock also shows an “E.A.W.” inspector stamp by buttplate and an M.S. on the forend just in front of the three MS stamps"
