Spencer carbine in .52 caliber rim-fire converted to Stabler cut off and shorten barrel for reissuance in Indian war, serial number 14132. The carbine remains in untouched frontier relic condition showing a dark brown patina finish with scattered erosion and light to moderate pitting. The address and model 1865 are clear and legible on the frame. The stock shows scorching on the belly from being close to campfires. The wood is generally worn and weathered from exposure to the elements on the frontier. The rear sight and front sight have been worked during the period for fast shooting. The bore is very rough from a great deal of use. The magazine is retained in the butt and the comb has been cut down and altered also for fast shooting. An interesting Spencer that tells a Western story as to where it was carried and used. Gale Kennedy Historical West Collection. Est.: $1,250 -$2,500.
