Spencer Model 1865 carbine, Serial Number 1 in .56 rimfire caliber, 20” barrel, in very good overall condition. This carbine shows some very unusual and prototype features including very narrow frame, crude hand fashioned barrel band, withother notable but minor differences to standard production arms. The carbine is in good overall condition showing a brown patina finish with some areas of original blue finish mixed in. There is some scattered light to moderate pitting anderosion. There is an old over coating of varnish or shellac but no sanding. The stocks are in fair to good condition with normal aging. The sling swivels have been removed. The action works well and the original sight is retained. Generally good condition overall. From a major Northwest Americana collection with a portfolio of research on Spencers and this carbine.
