Spencer Model 1865 Repeating Saddle Ring Carbine

Fixed blade front sight and folding rear sight graduated to 900 yards. The top of the receiver is marked "MODEL/1865" and "SPENCER REPEATING RIFLE/PAT'd MARCH 6 1860/MANUF'D. AT PROV. R.I./BY BURNSIDE RIFLE CO.", and the serial number is marked on top of the receiver next to the hammer. The left rear of the barrel is marked "B". Most parts are marked with a single letter inspection mark. Saddle ring and bar mounted on the left wrist and mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a sling swivel. The left side of the stock behind the saddle ring bar is stamped with two boxed cartouches. Although most Model 1865 Spencer carbines were delivered too late for use in the Civil War, they were used extensively by cavalry regiments on the frontier until replaced by the U.S. Model 1873 Springfield Carbine.

Condition: Very good plus. The metal surfaces have a mottled brown patina with some pin prick type pitting on the receiver. The wood is also very good with a small moderate dent on the left side of the stock and overall some minor dents and dings. There is a minor 1 1/2 inch crack on the left side of the stock at the buttplate running forward. The markings are readable. Stabler cutoff winged lever is absent. The action is fine
