This is an excellent example of an mid-production, pre-WWII Krieghoff "S" code Luger as manufactured in limited quantities for the Luftwaffe. It is complete with all matching numbers including the two magazines. It is marked with the "S" code over the chamber which was the secret wartime code indicating manufacture in 1936. The specific pistol is a mid-production model with serial number "3454" that still retains the "S" code marking. It has the "H" Krieghoff Anchor "K" with "KRIEGHOFF /SUHL" marked below that. The left point of the anchor nearly touches the letter "H" and the word "SUHL" is slightly off-set so that the "I" in Krieghoff is slightly ahead of the letter "S" in SUHL with the flat bottom on the letter "U". The right side of the barrel extension is marked with the early "LWaA" Luftwaffe acceptance proof followed by the Luftwaffe test proof and small "eagle/2" proof. The underside of the barrel is marked with only with the bore diameter and the early "Eagle/2" acceptance proof and no serial number. It has the typical Krieghoff factory military style serial number placement with the full serial number on the front frame and the left side of the barrel extension with the last two digits on the backside of the side plate, front and rear toggle assembly, trigger, and take down lever. The pistol is fitted with a set of original Krieghoff brown checkered plastic grips as manufactured by the Ritzmann firm. These grips are identified by their small fine checkered pattern with the smooth border around the edge of each grip panel. The back side of each grip panel has the correct mold numbers that consist of a small circled "HRS" for the Herman Ritzmann & Sohne company and number "8964" impressed into the plastic. The pistol is complete with two mid-production Krieghoff magazines that have the nickel plated magazine body with cast aluminum bases, with only the pistol serial number (3454) on both bases with only a single "eagle / 2" proof, backwards above the serial number. Complete with an early brown military holster, that has a partial manufacturer's mark over XX36.
BBL: 4 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 9 mm Luger
Finish: blue/straw
Grips: brown plastic checkered
Serial Number: 3454
Condition: Excellent overall with 97% plus of the original pre-war high polish blue finish remaining. Wear on the edges and high spots overall with actual blue loss/thinning on the back grip strap, the stock lug, the front edges of the frame rails and the side plate hump and the left side of the muzzle area. The various small parts retain 80% of their straw colors overall, with most of the color on the trigger and take down lever. The grips are in excellent condition overall with nice sharp checkering with a couple of minor handling marks on each side of the grip panels. The brown leather holster is very good with a nice even medium brown color overall with the typical minor scratches and scuffs overall from actual field use. The markings as noted above are only partially visible, however with a little research you should be able to identify the maker. This Krieghoff Luger has all matching numbers to include the two magazines.
