Spectacular Winchester Model 1886 Takedown Rifle
This is an example of a late production Winchester Model 1886 Takedown Rifle that was manufactured in 1923. The rifle has a full blue finish with varnished walnut stock and forearm. The stock has a shotgun style butt with a black, checkered, hard rubber buttplate with the Winchester logo in thee center. The rifle has a round barrel with half-magazine. The barrel is fitted with a Lyman "Hunting" front sight with ivory bead and a sporting style rear sight. The left side of the barrel is roll-stamped with: "MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO./NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A. PAT. OCT. 14. 1884. JAN. 20.1885." in two lines followed by "MADE IN U.S.A." and "WINCHESTER PROOF STEEEL - .33 W.C.F.". The right side of the barrel is roll-stamped with the designation: "-MODEL 1886-" below the rear sight. The oval, "W?P" Winchester proofmarks are stamped on the top of the barrel and receiver. The upper receiver tang is roll-stamped: "WINCHESTER/TRADE MARK/MADE IN U.S.A." in three lines. The serial number, "159367A" is roll stamped on the lower tang.

Condition: Excellent. The rifle retains 97% of the original full-blue finish. Wear is limited to some thinning, high edges and several light scratches on the underside of the receiver. The barrel and receiver markings are crisp. The stock and forearm are both in excellent condition with 98% of the original varnish finish and minimal handling wear.
