Spectacular Peabody Breechloading Saddle Ring Carbine

This is an exceptional example of a Peabody Breechloading saddle ring carbine that was developed during the Civil War, the Peabody Carbine was manufactured by the Providence Tool Company of Rhode Island circa 1866-1871. Blade front and 2-leaf rear sights, with a "T" stamped ahead of the barrel band, which is marked "R" and "U". Casehardened receiver, with the 5-line address and patent markings on the left side and single letter proofs on multiple components. Smooth stock, with a "WC" stamp on the left wrist and "F" on the buttplate.

Excellent in as issued condition, with 98% plus of the original blue finish, showing some mild handling marks and a small amount of gray patina. Case colors are 99% bright and vivid with very minor handling marks. Stock is also excellent with a mended chip behind the lock plate and scattered dents and scratches. Mechanically excellent. This is an exceptional high conditioned Peabody carbine.
