This is a spectacular matching pair of high quality dueling pistols manufactured Circa 1840 by Clough & Son, Bath, England. The top barrel flat is engraved "CLOUGH & SON BATH" and the lock is marked "CLOUGH & SON/BATH". The serial number is on the front strap. The lock, hammer and trigger guard are nicely decorated with floral scroll engraving, with a decorative geometric border on the trigger guard. The barrel tang is decorated with shell, floral and scroll designs. There is a geometric/floral design on the buttcap. The brown Damascus pattern barrel is fitted with a dovetailed blade front sight and there is a fixed notch rear sight on the barrel tang. The barrel is also fitted with a solid under rib. The breech plug and bolster are casehardened and there is a silver plated bolster plug and a silver inlaid band around the rear of the breech plug. The barrel and under rib are brown, high polish blue trigger guard, niter blue trigger and lock pins, and casehardened remaining parts. Sliding hammer safety, ebony ramrod with brass tip and mounted with a nicely figured walnut half stock with a silver endcap, checkered grip area, decorative finial and iron buttcap. The pair come in the original mahogany case with inset brass disk on the lid and navy blue felt lining with a Clough & Son label affixed to the inside of the lid. The case has 7 compartments, two with lids and ivory pulls. In the case is a knurled wooden handled nipple wrench, wooden handled screwdriver, a single cavity round bullet mold marked "9764" and "No43" on one arm and "WD" on the other, a small powder flask/bullet holder, an ivory nipple container, partial full cap tin, a brass bullet seater with screw-on wooden handle, two piece wood and brass cleaning rod with bore mop and jag, and 9 round lead bullets.

Excellent plus. The barrel retains 99% original brown finish with all of the Damascus pattern remaining and showing some mild edge wear. The lock, hammer, barrel tang and breech plug retain 99% original bright case colors with some edge wear. The lower tang is a mix of original fading case colors and smooth dove gray patina. The ramrod pipes have a smooth gray and brown patina. The forend remains bright with some age darkening on the edges. The trigger guard retains 99% original bright blue finish. The trigger retains almost all of the original bright niter blue finish. The stock is also excellent plus with 99% plus original varnish remaining and showing a few minor dings and handling marks, sharp edges on the flats, and crisp checkering. The markings and engraving are crisp and clear. The action is excellent. The case is very fine with an old repaired crack and separation on one corner of the lid, a crack along the bottom and a few scratches and dings on the exterior. The lining shows some contact wear. The accessories are all very fine.

Excellent. The barrel retains 99% original brown finish with some mild edge wear and a small ding on the left flat. All of the Damascus pattern remains. The trigger guard retains 98% of the original bright high polish blue finish. The trigger retains almost all of the original bright niter blue finish. The lock, bolster and barrel tang retain 95% original bright original case colors with a couple areas of smooth gray patina on the barrel tang. The breech plug and lower tang retain 95% slightly faded original case colors. The ram rod pipes have a smooth brown and gray patina. The stock is also excellent plus with 99% of the original varnish remaining showing a few minor dings and scratches, sharp edges on the flats and crisp checkering. The markings and engraving remain crisp and clear. The action is excellent. A spectacular pair of high quality English made dueling pistols that would enhance any advanced percussion pistol collection.
