Spectacular Historic Factory Presentation Engraved Nickel and Gold Plated Colt Army Special Revolver with Pearl Grips and Factory Documentation

This is another example of one of the most beautiful Colt Factory Engraved revolvers that we have had the opportunity to offer in sometime. This extraordinary revolver appears to be unfired and was originally owned by Albert Foster Jr., one-time Colt New York Office manager. This specific pistol was manufactured in November 1910 and is accompanied by a Colt factory letter to Herb Glass dated 1978 verifying the recipient and all the special order features. This beautiful revolver features a "C" plus coverage (75%) of the metal surfaces except for the front grip strap, underside of the barrel and the flutes of the cylinder. It is finished in a nickel plate finish on all the metal surfaces except the cylinder, trigger, hammer and cylinder pin which are all gold plated. The engraving consists of a beautifully well executed in a copy of an earlier Nimschke or later Cuno Helfricht type scroll engraved pattern intermixed with some very light geometric borders and high lights with a punch dot back ground. The top of the barrel is marked with Colt factory two-line address/patent dates with the left side marked "COLT ARMY/SPECIAL 38". It has the standard blade front sight with the notched frame rear sight. This exceptional pistol is fitted with a two-piece set of real Mother of Pearl grips, also verified in the Colt letter, with both grips fitted with the Colt Rampant Horse gold medallions on each side. The Colt letter verifies that this pistol was a one gun shipment, that was transferred from the "loan account" to Albert Foster Jr. on January 1932. Indicating that this pistol was actually a Colt factory display/show model that was retained at the New York office and then later obtained by Foster when Colt started making newer model revolvers. Just a beautiful all original and factory documented Colt engraved revolver.

Excellent plus with 99% of the original nickel and gold plated finish overall with only some minor spot flaking of the nickel plate in a couple of areas. The selected parts; cylinder, trigger, hammer and cylinder pin all retain 99% of their gold plated finish with a slight drag line on the cylinder with some very minor flaking of the gold finish on the cutouts and locking notch areas of the cylinder. The grips are both in excellent condition with beautiful color on both sides, with no signs of chipping or cracking anywhere, with a nice tight fit to the frame. Just a superb all original and Colt Factory Engraved Army Special revolver.
