Spectacular Factory Engraved Sharps Model 2B Four Barrel Pepperbox Pistol with Magnificent Relief Carved Pearl Grips and Original Box

This is a very nice example of 1 of the 3,700 Model 2B pistols manufactured between 1859 and 1874. The barrels, hammer, trigger and barrel release are blue and the brass frame is silver plated. The sides of the frame and lower portion of the back strap are nicely floral scroll engraved, and there is a sun burst around the rear sight notch. The left side of the frame is marked "C. SHARPS/PATENT 1859" and the right side "C. SHARPS & Co/PHILADA. PA." Bead front and frame notch rear sights, fitted with pearl grips with a relief carved woman holding an American flag on the left side and smooth on the right side. The pistol is complete with an original two piece Sharps black box with the correct directions label affixed to the inside of the lid.

Very fine. The barrel cluster is a mix of a smooth dark patina and bright original blue finish, (30%), concentrated mainly in the flutes. The frame retains 90% of the original silver plating with most of the loss on the high edges. The silver is beginning to darken nicely with age in places, and the exposed brass has an aged patina. The grips are fine with a couple of minor cracks on the upper left side, a very minor chip on the right toe and left heel, otherwise outstanding with a nice iridescent showing to the pearl. The markings and engraving are clear. The action needs work, the hammer does not hold a cock position. The box is also very fine. There is evidence of old repairs that have now been glued. The lid label is fully intact. A very nice Sharps Model 2A Pepperbox with factory engraving and rarely found box.
