This is a nice example of a Model 1902 Military pistol manufactured in 1916. The left side of the slide is marked with Colt's second style two block, two line address and patent marking, "PATENTED / APR. 20, 1897. SEPT. 9, 1902" "COLT'S PT.F.A.MFG.CO./ HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A." with the Rampant Colt behind the serrations. The right side of the slide is marked "AUTOMATIC COLT / CALIBRE .38 RIMLESS SMOKELESS" in two lines and the serial number is marked on the left side of the slide. The left side of the trigger guard is stamped with a small "1" at the rear of the trigger guard bow and the Colt "VP/Triangle" proofmark on the upper left front. The magazine is blued and stamped "CAL .38/ COLT" on the floor plate. The pistol features the high polish Colt commercial blue finish, with casehardened hammer, blue barrel with bright chamber and is fitted with checkered hard rubber grips with "Colt" in a ribbon at the top and the Rampant Colt in the center of the grip. The accompanying Colt factory letter verifies the major features, with the grips "Not Listed" and that it was shipped as one of 5 sent to A. Baldwin & Company of New Orleans on June 21, 1916.
