Spectacular Colt Model 1855 Revolving Percussion Sporting Rifle
This model of a Colt Revolving Rifle was manufactured from 1857 to 1864 with a total production of only about 1,500. The top strap is marked "{COLT'S PT. / 1856}" and "{ADDRESS COL. COLT / HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.}". The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the barrel, frame, buttplate and lower tang. The sights and forearm are absent. Blue finish with casehardened hammer and trigger guard, full fluted cylinder and mounted with a smooth straight grip varnished walnut stock with a sling swivel base mounted on the lower tang and crescent buttplate with compartment for cleaning rod, (frozen closed).

Condition: Very fine. The barrel has faded to a smooth plum with strong original blue finish in the protected areas. The frame and cylinder retain 90% original blue finish with scattered flaking and high edge wear. The buttplate retains 90% original bright blue finish thinning in areas with a small amount of minor spotting. The hammer is silver gray and the trigger guard shows strong original case colors in protected areas with a smooth brown patina on the balance. The stock is excellent with 95% original varnish with a minor sliver on the left side of the wrist at the lower tang, and some scattered minor dings. The markings are sharp. The action is excellent.
