Special order early model 1894 rifle, 26" half round, half octagon barrel, button magazine, crescent butt, Lyman receiver sight added, #50922, .30-30 caliber. These pre-1898 model 94's were marketed by Winchester as the "Klondike Rifle" and many were carried to Alaska's gold fields and are seldom found in this very good condition. The barrel shows 75-85% original blue finish that is nicely toning and aging with some brightening at the edges. Good sharp barrel address. Frame shows50-70% original bright blue drifting to grey with some scratches, and is considerably better on the left than right side. The hammer shows 80-90% case hardening. The lever shows traces of case hardening drifting to silver. The stocks are goodto very good with some minor dings, mars, scratches, normal compressions and use, but at least very good overall with great wood to metal fit. The buttplate shows case hardening drifted to silver. The rear sight dovetail in the barrel has been filled with a blank. The top tang shows a tap hole for a tang sight which is now removed. The edges are sharp, the action is tight, the bore is very good plus and may clean to even better. A far better than average pre-1898 Winchester model
