Special Order Winchester Model 1892 Takedown Lever Action Rifle with Cody Letter
Manufactured in 1906. standard two line address/patent marking on the upper left barrel flat ahead of the rear sight, "25-20 W.C.F." at the breech, three line model, maker, patent date on the upper tang and the serial number is marked on the bottom of the receiver. Folding globe front, two folding leaf rear and tang mounted short range peep sights, blue finish with casehardened lever, hammer and buttplate, half magazine tube, double set triggers and mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a steel forend cap and crescent buttplate. The accompanying Cody letter verifies the serial number, rifle, takedown configuration, caliber, octagon barrel, set trigger , that it was received in the warehouse on February 7, 1907 and shipped out on February 8, 1907, order number 84728, with one other gun (both records on the letter). The half magazine and sight are not mentioned.

Condition: Very fine. The rifle retains 70% of the original blue finish with some scattered minor pitting on the barrel, smooth gray patina on the takedown ring, thinning to gray on the bottom of the receiver and some high edge wear. The hammer and lever retain strong traces of the original faded case colors with gray patina on the balance and some minor pitting on the lever. The buttplate has a smooth mottled brown patina. The wood is also very fine with 98% original finish and overall scattered minor dings, dents and scratches. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
