Special Order Engraved Gold Inlaid Ansley Fox D Grade Double Barrel Box lock Shotgun
This is a nice example of a A.H. Fox special order D Grade shotgun. The shotgun features 26 inch barrels with double ivory bead sights on the concave matte solid rib. The extension is engraved with a floral vine design, with a thin gold inlaid wire band around the breech ends and across the top of the rib. 2 3/4 inch chambers, barrels gauge at improved modified/improved modified with extractor. There is a 2 inch wedge of floral engraving with a matte background on each barrel with two relief gold inlaid ducks in flight amid the engraving. The top of the right barrel is engraved "CHROMOX FLUID COMPRESSED STEEL" and "MADE BY A.H. FOX GUN CO. PHILA PA U.S.A." on the left. The matching serial number is marked on the left barrel flat and "SPECIAL" on the right. "D" marked water table. The action, trigger guard, break lever and forearm hardware are engraved with fine English scroll. In addition the trigger guard is inscribed "LM" in gold inlay. Blue barrels and trigger guard with casehardened finish on the remaining parts, single trigger, tang mounted automatic safety, with gold "SAFE" and mounted with a fancy bordered checkered splinter forearm with ebony forend insert and straight grip stock with a serrated hard rubber buttplate. Length of pull is 13 7/8 inches.

Condition: Partially refinished, the barrels with 99% blue finish remaining with some thinning on the breech end sides. The trigger guard retains 98% original blue finish with a mix of thin original blue and smooth gray patina on the lower tang. All of the gold inlay remains.The action retains 50% original bright case colors mainly in the protected areas with a smooth gray patina on the balance. The wood is excellent with a few minor dings on the forearm, light handling marks on the stock and overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
