Special Order Antique Winchester Model 1894 Deluxe Lever Action 38-55 Rifle

The rifle has a blue barrel, magazine, forearm cap and receiver with casehardened hammer, trigger and lever. The forearm and pistol grip stock are nicely figured fancy grain walnut with rarely encountered "Style I" checkering. The stock has a black hard rubber grip cap embossed "WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS Co." and a black hard rubber checkered shotgun buttplate with the round Winchester logo in the center. The full octagon barrel has a special order Marbles "Tunnel" front sight with brass bead and a "M.S.A. Co." rear sight with folding leaf. A Lyman folding combination sight is mounted on the receiver tang. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped "MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO./NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A. PATENTED AUGUST 21, 1894" in two lines ahead of the rear sight. The caliber designation "38-55" is stamped on the top of the barrel between the rear sight and the receiver. The serial number "46053" is stamped across the bottom of the receiver.

Fine, the rifle retains 70% of the slightly faded original blue finish. Most of the blue finish is present on the barrel and magazine. The finish on the forearm cap is thin. The high points on the receiver sides, top and bottom show handling wear and have a smooth gray patina. The sides of the receiver retain most of the original blue finish. The hammer, trigger and lever retain about 85% of the case colors. The stock and forearm are very good overall with light handling wear. The checkered panels are slightly worn and the stock and forearm have a number of minor handling marks primarily on the left side of the stock near the buttplate. Most of the original finish remains. The action is excellent. This is a fine example of a Special Order Winchester Model 1894 Fancy Sporting Rifle.
