This is a very fine example of a very rare special order Winchester Model 1873 Carbine with the "All Nickel" plated factory finish as manufactured in 1889. All 1873 Saddle Ring Carbines are very scarce and desirable as only 36% of total 1873 production were carbines, with any carbine having "any" plated finish is extremely rare as only "1 out of every 600 guns" had any type of nickel plating, with the "All Nickel" plated finish being the rarest variation. This carbine has the third style receiver with integral dust cover rail and dust cover with the rear serrated edges. The carbine has a standard length, 20-inch, round barrel and full-length magazine. The top of the barrel is roll-marked behind the second barrel band with the Winchester second pattern two-line legend of "WINCHESTER"S REPEATING ARMS, NEW HAVEN. CT./KING"S IMPROVEMENT PATENTED. MARCH 29. 1866 OCTOBER 16. 1860.". The caliber marking of "44 CAL" is roll marked on the underside of the brass cartridge elevator. This carbine has the later pattern carbine front sight mounted directly on top of the barrel, behind the front barrel band and it is fitted with the earlier pattern non-adjustable rear sight that has the folding leaf marked 1, 3 and 5. The original saddle ring and stud are mounted on the left side of the receiver. The top of the tang carries the third pattern markings of a Script "MODEL 1873." with a small decorative foliate design on each end. The lower rear tang is stamped with the serial number "287827B". The black walnut stock has a carbine style buttplate with sliding brass trapdoor, that houses the three-piece cleaning rod that is also "nickel" plated.
BBL: 20 inch round

Finish: nickel

Serial Number: 287827B
Condition: Very fine with 70% plus of the original Winchester factory nickel plated finish remaining overall, with the majority of the finish loss due to the nickel plating having flaked off the exposed section of the magazine tube and loading lever. The balance of the carbine shows the typical small little flaking spots due to light use and age. The stock and forearm are both fine with 50% of the original factory varnish still remaining on the forearm with 40% of the original factory varnish still remaining on the buttstock. The markings are clear and sharp and the action is excellent. Just a beautiful example of a scarce "All Nickel" plated Winchester 1873 SRC.
