<B>Special Edition Comics #1 (Fawcett, 1940) CGC VF/NM 9.0 Cream to off-white pages.</B></I> Not only does this issue pre-date the <B>Captain Marvel Adventures</B></I> series, it's the first comic devoted entirely to the character (of course, he shared <B>Whiz Comics</B></I> with other features). One explanation we've heard for the nondescript title is that Fawcett wanted a bit of deniability in case DC's lawyers claimed Captain Marvel had his own comic. Whatever the case, this classic cover, credited to C. C. Beck, is one of the most memorable among all Fawcett comic books. Overstreet 2006 VF/NM 9.0 value = $9,537; NM- 9.2 value = $13,200.
