Spanish colonial period Esmeral type canon, possibly cast in Lima, Peru. Tube measures 46” in length. 1-3/4” bore measuring approx. 5” across the muzzle. 8” across the breech. Fancy Spanish style scrolling and casting with florals. There are small stamps near the breech area that are illegible. The muzzle shows fancy rings and the tube is well cast. The touch hole is clear, the cannon is on a display mount which is hand-carved in wood and is old but for display purposes only. We would date the canon at approx. 1660 and is one of the first canon cast in the new world. From the William R. Orbelo Collection. Est: $10,000 - $20,000
